Many would say that visual arts is all about communicating through the artist’s “eye”.
Lucky that there are as many ways of seeing as there are artists. Here are a few perspectives :
“We do not see with our eyes, but through them” said the Canadian realist Ken Danby – or perhaps: “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see” from the Impressionist Edgar Degas.
…and how about “One eye sees, the other feels.” according to the Expressionist Paul Klee. Left brain, right brain?
Perhaps closest to my own experience is: “You see it and you don’t see it, and you don’t see it and you see it…..” Bill Alexander (the original happy TV painter).
