Weekly Brush Bristles…on Neanderthal art

Many have commented on how utterly “modern” cave paintings appear. After exiting the famous caves in his native Spain, Picasso famously commented: “After Altamira, all is decadence.”  and, “We have invented nothing new”, after seeing the cave paintings at Lascaux France.

And now the record of art is extended back, predating homo sapiens with some Neanderthals, 65,000 years ago:

Personally, I’m fascinated by the squares and patterns of dots….WOW…..there has to be some meaning there!
