Vincent van Gogh, Wheatfield with a lark, 1887.

We ran our first two-day workshop with the Ottawa School of Art at the Shenkman Centre, “In the Footsteps of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven” and have been invigorated by all of the feedback to date. The workshop filled up quickly, as did the second for the winter season “Limitless Colour “.

For Spring, we’ve two additional, two-day weekend workshops scheduled:

P19SWS03 Van Gogh, Gauguin, and the Post-Impressionists – Saturdays, 04 May 2019 & 11 May 2019 (9:30AM-4:30PM)

P19SWS05 From Rembrandt to Renoir: Portraits, Classical and Modern – Saturdays, 01 June 2019 & 15 June 2019 (9:30AM-4:30PM)

Details are on the Ottawa School of Art website: https://artottawa.ca/orleans-campus/

Posting of the first on-line course: “Expressive Portraits with Acrylic” is now complete and.February also saw the launch of our 2nd on-line course with “Expressive Portraits with Oil”. The third, “Expressive Portraits with Watercolour” is set up and posting begins tomorrow! Participants are enthusiastic about the flexibility of on-line courses, working at their own pace, and not all in series (we artists are not all linear learners, eh!). Some are taking its online advantage, given that they are in far-flung locations.

We’re always delighted to see your recent work and February has been no exception – Canadians have to have a dose of winter creativity, eh! Thank you all for sharing your art!

PS. In a recent conversation with a couple of Break-a-Bushers, we mused on how a small detail, such as form or colour can completely change the nature of a painting. Put your finger over the Lark in Vincent’s painting above and you’ll see what I mean! Which version resonates with you?
