“Black is not a colour.” said Edouard Manet, although he used it.
Black evokes a response – not a colour, yet … Here are a few artist-musings:
“Black is like a broken vessel, which is deprived of the capacity to contain anything.” Leonardo da Vinci
“I fell in love with black; it contained all colour. It wasn’t a negation of colour… Black is the most aristocratic color of all … You can be quiet, and it contains the whole thing.” Louise Nevelson
“There’s something about black. You feel hidden away in it.” Georgia O’Keeffe
“With all their damned talk of modern painting, I’ve been forty years discovering that the queen of all colours is black!” Pierre-Auguste Renoir
“If I could find anything blacker than black I’d use it.” J. M. W. Turner

“Any colour, so long as it’s black.” Henry Ford
