Zooming along
Hello fellow artists! Had anyone told us that our world would be as it is today a mere 3 months ago, we’d have burst out laughing. We are so very fortunate to possess a love for art, aesthetics, beauty and meaning. It smooths the passage to a new reality. It is health-giving, enlightening and motivating. Moreover, it is something best shared. This brings us to our Zoom sessions: what a privilege it is to connect in real time and engage with peers to convey ideas, ask questions and partake of many fascinating points of view.
A sense of community develops with every unique group and people get to know each other. We look forward to this shared time together and the take away becomes more than simply learning, it is connecting and knowing that you have a place in this amazing world that is art. Of all of the places we could be in or choose to be in, art is a world of wonder and what a way to savour it. I wonder what the great masters might have said, presented with the possibility of Zooming, such as we do? Perhaps they’d have burst out laughing too, quickly followed by a sober moment of contemplation, wonder and imaginings. Wow……how blessed we are!
A couple of Zoom paint-ins
Over the last weeks, groups of artists participated in joint creativity sessions worldwide: music, theatre, you name it, artists are coming together, including two groups here at Break-a-Brush. Every month, Ann (a watercolourist) and Barb (primarily an acrylic painter) get together to explore a new medium – gouache. It’s a bit like meeting in the middle because gouache has characteristics of both watercolour and acrylic. This April they decided to Zoom in order to paint together. It went so well that they will do it again in May. On the watercolour front, Pamela has also been organizing similar Zoom paint-ins with friends at the Ottawa Watercolour Society, again super successful.

A number of you have asked about our summer plans. We’re definitely cooking up something! Our plans are evolving based upon our rapidly changing circumstances and we are planning to continue on-line art programs. Although our annual three day plein-air and studio workshops in Wakefield will not be practical (plus the Community Centre is closed for the summer) it’s an opportunity to innovate!
