The secret life of brushes
“I’ve never found a brush that I did not like” might seem like a blanket statement, but honestly I never throw a brush out unless it’s broken … maybe. As the days go by, new ones replace old ones for tricky passages and the older are pressed into expressive use. I have a few that are as hard as rocks – I still use them, more for ladling and scraping than brushing. Some sit quietly “on the bench” and then late in the third period of a work, “ah ha! I can use that one to create a little bush” … all in one go!
