Drawing and Painting with Perspective – Course Description

This short course will focus on perspective in a range of real-world environments. Single, two and three-point linear perspective will be covered and perhaps equally importantly, approaches on when to follow the rules and when to bend them. The role of composition, rendering and colour including atmospheric perspective, will be explained and applied, separately and in conjunction with linear perspective. Instruction and coaching will clarify how perspective helps with various subjects and styles.

Session Focus Description

1

Principles of linear perspective. Studies in single-point perspective along with effective visual receding in all media. Artistic practices that interpret theory.

2

Two-point perspective. Expanding linear perspective to handle real world situations. The importance of consistency over perfection. Dividing space in perspective.

3

Multiple perspectives, setting the creative tone. The impact of different viewpoints and approaches.

4

Three-point perspective and  atmospheric effects. Drawing and painting in warm and cool and creating atmospheric effects regardless of media. Application of linear perspective to different references and problems.
