Develop your drawing and painting confidence! Comprising six on-line lessons, we will cover sound practices as they apply to both plein-air and studio endeavours. What to paint on location: Should I sketch or use paint media? How might I best use reference photos? How might I incorporate people into my paintings? Who hasn’t returned to the studio from a sketching expedition and thought, “what now?” This short course will include “plein-air” tips and equally, with a return to the studio, ideas to translate sketches into spectacular finished works.
Every week participants receive a feature lesson and can submit their week’s work for review. These reviews may be tied to the lesson plan or equally, to the result of their independent endevours. Whether your summer is at the cottage, traveling or working in town, this course aims to motivate and stimulate creativity. Follow our weekly program or alternatively, access and participate on your own schedule – wherever you are!

Introductory Notes
A course for Summer
Many courses, perhaps through necessity, pursue a similar process: following sound methods from initiation through to completion of a featured form of artwork. I want this course to be different: let’s enjoy summer and create art together, each week a different theme that you can pick-up and use, or equally go your own way, sending back your explorations – as off-topic as you like – for my review. Plein-air and studio, drawing, watercolour, acrylic and oil – I’ll be commenting on it all. You’re free to pick something up every week and run with it. Let’s create some summer art together!
Breadth and depth
Throughout this course, I’ll cover the basics and connect with drawing and painting processes. There is also a depth that I could go to, however I’ll generally provide references selected from the great range of information available.
Materials
Choice of materials is yours to explore. I will use a range during the course and the principles are of course independent of materials. I’ve included some painting materials information for those who might be interested in my methods. They are general in nature and suitable, whether I’m tackling landscapes, cityscapes or portraits!
