of Still Lifes and Portrait Studies…

Every teaching/workshop term I collect a few studies and demos to enjoy and this year has been no exception. Glancing through these studies, my 2018 collection is heavy on Still Life and Portraits. Here’s a selection:

A study in acrylic, completed from a small church bouquet during a Break-a-Brush workshop.
This painting is in water-mixable oils, started during an Ottawa School of Art class and essentially finished immediately afterwards (whilst the paint was still wet!).
This arrangement is in regular oils and undertaken during a recent Break-a-Brush workshop.

Here are a couple of recent watercolour demo portrait studies:

And finally, the mandatory self portrait from an Ottawa School of Art class. With this one, I challenged myself to complete it without commencing with an underlying drawing.

By-the-by, I’ve been shooting some video of work-in-progress. After ironing out some “technical problems” with a new webcam, I’ve a couple of demonstrations from the members area of our new breakabrush.com (Visual Arts Workshops and Mentoring) website to share:
