Weekly Brush Bristles … more from John Ruskin

Some of John Ruskin’s artworks.

A short while back, I quoted the Victorian artist, educator and critic John Ruskin (http://www.breakabrush.com/2019/01/14/weekly-brush-bristles-john-ruskin-and-glaciers/).

Here are a few more examples of Ruskin’s wisdom:

“Nothing can be beautiful which is not true.”

“When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.”

“The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love colour the most.”

“Everything that you can see in the world around you presents itself to your eyes only as an arrangement of patches of different colors.”

“I believe that the sight is a more important thing than the drawing…”

“There are no such things as flowers; there are only gladdened leaves. “

Then perhaps my favorite:

“The artist’s business is to feel, although he may think a little sometimes… when he has nothing better to do.”
